Surrogate Compensation and Benefits

As a surrogate with Maryland Surrogacy Center, you can earn a base compensation between $50,000 and $80,000, with additional allowances for monthly expenses, maternity clothing, carrying multiples, and other incidentals. All pregnancy-related expenses, including legal fees, travel, and medical costs, are covered by the intended parents, ensuring you won't have to worry about these.

The total compensation is influenced by several factors, such as your location, whether you’re carrying multiples, and any prior experience as a surrogate. In some areas, where surrogates are in higher demand, the base pay may be increased.

Your base compensation, which ranges from $50,000 to $80,000, is paid over 9 monthly installments once the pregnancy is confirmed by a heartbeat. All compensation details are agreed upon before any medical procedures begin.

Surrogates may be eligible for additional compensation beyond the base amount, as specified in advance in the surrogacy contract. All qualifications and payment details for these extra compensations will be clearly outlined to ensure full understanding.

These additional compensations can vary depending on your situation and may include:

  • Monthly Allowance for incidentals
  • Compensation for starting medication
  • Payment for embryo transfer
  • Maternity clothing allowance
  • Additional compensation for carrying multiple fetuses
  • Reimbursement for lost wages
  • Coverage for housekeeping and/or childcare
  • Payment for invasive procedures (such as amniocentesis or c-sections)

Frequently Ask Questions

How long is the surrogacy process from start to finish?

The surrogacy process can vary in length based on individual circumstances. Typically, from the time you apply to become a surrogate until the birth of the baby, it can range from 14 to 18 months. This includes the initial application, medical and psychological evaluations, legal processes, embryo transfer, and the pregnancy itself.

What kind of relationship will I have with the intended parents during and after the pregnancy?

The relationship between you and the intended parents is highly individualized and can be tailored to everyone's comfort levels. Some surrogates and intended parents choose to maintain close communication throughout the pregnancy, while others prefer a more structured or distant approach. After the birth, the nature of the relationship will again be based on mutual agreement. Our team at the Maryland Surrogacy Center will be there to help facilitate discussions and set expectations on both sides.

How many medical visits will I need to attend?

You will need to attend several medical appointments during the surrogacy process. Initially, there are screenings and evaluations. Once the embryo transfer is successful, you'll have regular prenatal check-ups, similar to any pregnancy. As the due date approaches, visits may become more frequent. The Maryland Surrogacy Center will provide a detailed schedule and be there to assist with any logistics.

Do I need to have my own health insurance?

While having your health insurance is beneficial, it's not mandatory. The Maryland Surrogacy Center will review your current insurance to determine if it covers surrogacy pregnancies. If not, the intended parents typically secure a surrogacy-specific policy for you to ensure all medical costs associated with the pregnancy are covered.

What support can I expect from the Maryland Surrogacy Center throughout the process?

Your well-being is our top priority. From the moment you begin your journey with us, you'll receive comprehensive support. This includes coordinating medical appointments, offering counseling services, connecting you with a community of fellow surrogates, and providing legal assistance. Our dedicated team is always available to answer any questions and guide you every step of the way.
